Breakwater Strategy Welcomes Joe Carberry as Partner

WASHINGTON and SAN FRANCISCO, July 15, 2024 | Breakwater Strategy, a leading strategic insights and communications consultancy, announced today that San Francisco-based Joe Carberry has joined the firm as Partner. Carberry brings more than 25 years of experience in  communications and marketing leadership roles, significantly enhancing the firm’s capabilities in reputation management, brand strategy, and employee engagement.

Commenting on the announcement, Breakwater Strategy CEO Arik Ben-Zvi said, “I have been privileged to know Joe for many years as a friend and client. I have seen him lead teams, respond to crises, navigate high-stakes moments and deliver smart, sound counsel to some of the world’s top business leaders. What distinguishes Joe is not just the superb quality of his work, but the fact that he leads from a place of extraordinary kindness, generosity and empathy. To know Joe is to love him. We could not be more thrilled to welcome him to Breakwater — and in doing so, further strengthen our firm’s corporate communications bona-fides.”

Prior to joining Breakwater, Carberry served as a Managing Director and Head of Corporate Relations at Charles Schwab, where he led reputation strategies that helped secure Schwab’s position as a top-50 Fortune Most Admired Company for six consecutive years. He also was head of global communications at eBay, and held senior roles at Brunswick Group, MSLGROUP, and Visa, working across the financial, technology, and other sectors.

Commenting on his new role, Carberry said, “I’ve been a longtime fan of Breakwater and its unique approach to help organizations address their most complex issues. Today’s reality is that every company must be prepared to navigate moments of transformational change – those they can see coming and those they can’t. I love Breakwater’s focus on helping management teams move quickly to make the right decisions in those moments, to achieve the best business and stakeholder outcomes. And their multidisciplinary model reflects the intersection of different forces at play in the current business environment. Most of all, I’m excited to join a team with the kind of passion, agility and intellectual depth they bring to their clients.”

Carberry’s hire follows the additions of Prof. Steven Weber and Mark Hayes as partners at the firm, establishing Breakwater squarely at the intersection of business strategy, public policy, the capital markets and the public conversation.
